There is a lot of information out there in the world concerning the topic of meditation. We see it shown in films, talked about in celebrities’ biographies and even offered in sports center programs. Science has proven its benefits and it has become a familiar word in our social conversations.

However, the techniques most available are often the diluted and mainstream versions of true ancient practices. This pop culture meditation style that lends bits and pieces from the likes of Tantric meditation can offer relaxation from everyday troubles, but it only scratches the surface of the potential of this powerful method.

What is true meditation?

tantric meditation - authentic meditation is key for a serious spiritual aspirant
In modern times it is difficult to discern what is true meditation.

When compared to the eclectic meditation styles that are popular today, Tantric meditation…

  • is authentic tradition, passed down from masters that lived over a millenia ago,
  • delves much deeper into the mind and spirit, than the average mix-and-match techniques,
  • is foremost a step towards spiritual evolution and enlightenment.

While the popularity of spiritualism is a welcome sight in today’s world, it often tends to remain superficial and full of misconceptions. Using something from one tradition and combining with another, or even simply adding personal imagination, can produce beneficial effects, but it’s not necessarily true meditation at all.

You can be sure you are practicing meditation if you subscribe to a spiritual tradition, which has repeatedly over a course of time proven to have produced high states of consciousness to its practitioners – Tantra and tantric meditation is one of those traditions.

Tantric Meditation - Patanjali was considered the father of Yoga
Yoga Sutras of Patanjali statue on a Hindu Temple. Patanjali was considered the father of Yoga

The father of Yoga, famous master Patanjali, has said in his “Yoga Sutras” text hundreds of years ago that “meditation is controlled expansion of the mind”. It is recommended to invest your time into learning authentic techniques of meditation as this is the only way to be sure you will get the desired results.

True meditation is not simply about starting a path towards mental well-being, but enlightenment.
